On the 6th, I test-drive a well-known self-driving car in front of 119 buildings of Sejong Gracia Apartment in front of Oido Station. It was amazing, but on the other hand, there were concerns about whether there would be any safety problems. The self-driving mobility "Reception" service is organized by the Industry-Academic Cooperation Group consisting of Seoul National University, LG U+, and Automos, and is being helped by Siheung City.
First, when I installed the "meet" app on Google's Play Store and pressed Call, a message appeared to complete the dispatch to vehicle 3. After waiting for about three minutes with excitement, the car arrived. But there was a driver saying it was an autonomous vehicle. An official from Seoul National University explained, "The driver is boarding in case of an unexpected situation," adding, "The driver does not manipulate handles or starvation at all."
Like an electric vehicle, it started to slide without any engine noise. Just before the red light came on at the first traffic light, the priming car automatically slowed down and stopped at the waiting line.
As the signal turned green, it started slowly. But suddenly, the car stopped and the speed decreased. This is because another vehicle intervened in the next lane. As the final destination approached, he slowly stopped changing lanes. I started in front of 119 building of Sejong Gracia Apartment and ran about five streets from the bus stop.
Seoul National University explained, "Safety is the top priority, so we have been set to stop at the traffic light first and leave late." There are up to five levels of autonomous driving, and the level of autonomous driving in the meetup is 3.5 levels, similar to Tesla, but the accident rate is less than Tesla, he said. "There has never been an accident since the trial run in mid-February."
The meetup, which runs from Oido Station on Subway Line 4 to Baegot New Town, will be divided into the first and second lanes. First of all, four electric vehicles Hyundai Ioniq will be operated, and from June, a total of seven will be operated, including two Ioniqs and one 15-seater van. It plans to test-run only one route until June and increase it to five routes later.
Anyone can apply for a pick-up experience. It runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the day and from 9:30 p.m. to 0:30 a.m. at night. In particular, it is expected to be a useful and different opportunity for those who leave work or commute to school late at night through Oido Station.
An official from Siheung City said, "The pick-up service is a great opportunity to ride a self-driving car free of charge in Siheung, and it is an autonomous shuttle service to take responsibility for returning home late at night."
