[2020.12.14] "Self-driving cars are coming out late at night". Seoul National University, LG U+, and Automos are on trial.

14 Mar 2022

Researchers in Korea are demonstrating autonomous driving through industry-academic cooperation.
Seoul National University announced on the 14th that it is carrying out a pilot project for autonomous driving mobility services, a Korean version of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, along with LG U+ and Automos.
Since October, Seoul National University has been piloting a late-night self-driving shuttle service called "Reception" in Baegot New Town, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, where public transportation is not smooth. The service was planned in consideration of the short operation time and long dispatch interval of public transportation between Oido Station and Baegot New Town.
Seoul National University expects the service to expand citizens' safety and benefits, including resolving blind spots for public transportation ▲ arranging walking stops in residential areas ▲ ensuring driving stability.
The pilot project organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is a project that provides subsidies of 7 billion won (3 billion won in the first year and 4 billion won in the second year) for two years for mobility projects based on autonomous vehicles. The focus was on providing self-driving services that people feel and giving private businesses opportunities to demonstrate self-driving.
In May, Seoul National University formed a consortium and signed a business plan agreement with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In this consortium, Seoul National University presents an autonomous vehicle operation algorithm, and LG U+ provides an autonomous driving control platform and vehicle-road infrastructure communication service. Automos plays a role in manufacturing autonomous vehicles and operating services.
Since October this year, four shuttle cars have been used to provide free demand-responsive late-night safe return shuttle services to one destination from Oido Station to Baegot New Town residential area.
It is also operated during the day to provide college students with opportunities to experience self-driving cars. Seoul National University plans to expand seven shuttle cars to five destinations across Baegot New Town by the end of 2021.
Shuttle vehicles drive autonomously at a speed limit of 50 km/h in urban traffic conditions where ordinary cars and pedestrians are mixed. Traffic signal information can be received and stopped and driven accordingly using WAVE-based communication methods while driving.
You can book boarding using the app, and check reservation information with a user terminal in the car and provide self-driving car driving information so that you can return home safely.
